A Heap of Anime News Dropped Over the Festive Season

The Yuletide season present a wealth of activities far superior than checking the updates: opening presents, feasting on delicious food, and employing deep breathing to avoid yelling at loved ones. Hopefully you managed to enjoy all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many exciting news items came out during the break, and if you didn't see some of them, here is a summary of the most exciting bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Will Continue (Come 2027)

Truly the most shocking piece of news, the notorious troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop further production. Season 3 will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—a date so remote they could have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. But, the promotional image for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, by now, they must be trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now fans are ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Has a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been airing for years, and season 6 was another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will probably debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Second Season

Right after the conclusion of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm release date has not yet been announced.
