A Patriotic Palette and Historic Symbol

The updated branding features a red, white and blue colour scheme to mirror the national flag and will be used on rolling stock, at terminals, and across its digital platforms.

Interestingly, the logo is the distinctive twin-arrow logo currently used by National Rail and originally designed in the mid-20th century for British Rail.

The Introduction Strategy

The implementation of the branding, which was created internally, is expected to occur gradually.

Travellers are expected to start noticing the freshly-liveried trains across the UK rail network from the coming spring.

During the month of December, the design will be exhibited at prominent railway stations, such as Manchester Piccadilly.

A Path to Renationalisation

The legislation, which will allow the creation of GBR, is currently progressing through the Parliament.

The government has said it is bringing back into public ownership the railways so the system is "owned by the passengers, working for the people, not for profit."

The new body will bring the operation of passenger trains and infrastructure under a unified structure.

The government has said it will unify 17 various entities and "cut through the problematic red tape and accountability gap that has long affected the railways."

Digital Services and Current Ownership

The launch of GBR will also include a dedicated app, which will let passengers to check train times and reserve journeys free from additional fees.

Accessibility travellers will also be able to use the app to arrange help.

Multiple operators had already been nationalised under the previous administration, such as TPE.

There are now 7 operating companies now in public control, representing about a one-third of journeys.

In the past year, c2c have been brought into public ownership, with additional operators expected to be added in the coming years.

Ministerial and Sector Reaction

"This is not simply a paint job," commented the relevant minister. It signifies "a transformed service, casting off the problems of the previous system and concentrated completely on offering a proper public service."

Rail representatives have acknowledged the government's commitment to bettering the passenger experience.

"We will carry on to collaborate with industry partners to support a seamless changeover to the new system," one executive said.
